- Lower turnover, better profit
The situation
Staff turnover was high and roles were unclear. Onboarding, training, performance reviews and retention were each handled on their own, so new people took too long to become effective and good people didn't stay.
The challenge
Onboarding, training, roles, feedback and retention were each handled separately, so problems in one weakened the others.
What we did
We treated workforce performance as an operating problem, not an HR task, and connected five stages into one employee journey:
| Stage | What Changed |
|---|---|
| Onboarding | A structured onboarding programme with clear first expectations. |
| Training | Role-specific training to build skills and confidence. |
| Role clarity | Defined responsibilities and expectations for every role. |
| Performance | Regular, data-led feedback and accountability. |
| Retention | Recognition, development paths and engagement routines. |
What changed
Staff turnover dropped noticeably and profitability improved as the new onboarding, role clarity and performance routines took hold. Management gained a consistent process for setting roles, training, giving feedback and reviewing workforce indicators.
The principle: better performance comes from connected people processes: a clear start, clear expectations, support to build capability, regular feedback and a reason to stay.
What we learned
Staff turnover is rarely an HR problem alone. When roles, onboarding and feedback connect, people stay longer and perform better.
